Touch! - a (satirical) tribute to cameraphones

"Touch!" is a personal photoproject documenting the current trend of cameraphone usage. This is probably the first phase of the photoproject as the idea came to mind spontaneously - in a university event that sparked a cameraphone bonanza. It is worth collecting more photographs before making any conclusion.

All hail the mighty cameraphones! "Touch!" is the new "Click!". Cameraphones also serve as a solution for left-handed photographers because all you can use either hand to focus, zoom, and snap (not to mention "share"). Bad picture? No problemo. Just sprinkle some special effects (featuring nostalgic lomo-fy and ultra high contrast B&W) to your picture and call it a masterpiece - everybody can be a photographer! Not cool enough? Your camera can now make a phone call and surf the internet.

Traditionally, photography had been a long-waiting process as photographers waited impatiently for their pictures to appear in the chemical bath. But now, the photographic process is getting even longer, as young, serious photographers wait impatiently for comments and likes to appear under their shared photos. Not to mention the tedious post-photographic work such as location and face tagging.

People of Brisbane #7: Night Life 夜生活

是夜,另一种人类走在街上。另一种样貌、行为、味道、声音。他们是谁?他们几点钟醒来?他们在做什么?他们在想什么?同样的地点,到了夜晚却变得如此陌生。我不敢久留,只勉强得到了几张模糊的照片。

他们的世界像是一种禁区。对于“正常人”来说,夜生活也许是邪恶的;但是对这些夜猫子来说,也许白天要带着面具在办公室进行千篇一律的生活,才是真正的折磨。

两人之间

人与人之间的关系,奥妙至极。除了和家人亲戚的关系,现在也学习着怎样和伴侣相处。两个人能走得那么近是缘分,更不用说接下来的了解和包容。

时常看别的情侣如何相处,然后自我检讨。世界上并没有完美的情侣(或家庭),只有不断学习、不断了解彼此的情侣(或家庭)。当然,也有人反方向走。

两个人可以是一起抽根烟、畅谈心事的。也可以是坐在对面却什么话都没有的。(当然,吸烟只是看见照片中的他们这样做才说,并不是叫你去吸。喝茶吧,茶很健康…)。相处也是一门学问,一种学到老的学问。

先进国的年轻劳工

要通过旅行了解一个国度,并不是一夜就能达到的。很多配套旅行,跟长时间居留的经历比起来,显得走马看花。用照片来举例:很多旅行照片都只呈现了该国的皮肤,要纪录其内脏,是需要花时间和心思的。一半旅客忽略的,包括该国人民日常的行为后巷夜街凌晨低阶劳工等,但是这些元素却是每个国家的基础和真实面貌。现在的世界爆满了旅行照片,但是没有几张是有深度的——就如英国摄影师 Martin Parr 说的“Too much photography”。

在食堂看见一个年轻的建筑工人,模样嫩嫩,和对面的老工头对比甚大。以前老妈常警惕我要用工读书,不然就好像大马茶餐室的小孩那样,年级轻轻就要出来干粗活。我现在确定,读不到书被逼出来做工,这种现象在澳洲(先进国)也有。当然,我尊敬他们的生命力。

当你多看多思考后,也许你就会觉得先进国和落后国并没什么差别。人,在哪里都是一样,同样的本性、同样的优缺点。 这引发至少 2 个思路:(一)既然人处处一样,那么出国旅行的目的是什么?我们能不能先从自己的国家开始探索?(二)很多时候我们都从外国的“好”中看见我国的“坏”,有没有想过能从外国的“坏”中看出我国的“好”

实验:胶卷上的叶脉 Shooting with a leaf vein mask

已经是去年的实验了,可是今年才扫描到底片,发觉成果不错,值得继续完善化。

当时在地上捡到一片半腐烂的叶子,灵机一动便带回家,剪下一个长方形,贴在还没上底片的 Holga 135BC 的快门后。很多人尝试了心形、星形和条状等等的 mask (即挡在底片或镜头前的不透明片),但是还没人试过叶脉。过后嫌整片叶脉会导致照片中间缺乏重点,所以重新排列了叶脉,让照片中间不被叶脉遮挡(没有拍下来,只能从成品看出)。

用胶纸把叶脉贴在快门后,要记得保留空间给底片,不然底片无法前进到下一格。

在地上捡到的叶子,半腐烂,所以不用自己破坏叶肉来取得叶脉。

成果不错,叶脉并没有影响曝光。只是胶纸也出现在照片上,而且叶脉涵盖的范围稍微多了一点。如果当初有用人作为对象的话,可能会比较有趣(比如说,那个人可以扮被叶脉纠缠)。

实验后仔细想想,其实叶脉的出现有点多余(没有重点、没有意义)。这些照片未免显得“为了做而做”,没有背后意义(当然实验本身是意义)。如果我们要添加元素在照片上,那么那个元素应该传达或加强照片的意义才是。在我想到答案之前,看来这个实验只会继续呆在清单里。

手机上的澳洲内陆 - 添油站

去年到澳洲内陆 Idalia National Park 生态考察的路上,经过一些对城市人来说是无名的小镇,那些添油站和旅舍令人记忆犹深。

寒夜令人冷静思考,周围的死寂让你的思绪和思念无处可逃。全世界好像只剩下你和你的思考。

前方是黑暗,后方也是黑暗。仿佛最安全的举动,就是站在原地投降。

但我们依旧上路,忍耐了几小时的黑暗后,我们看见了5点钟的太阳,从地平线缓缓升起。我从口中吐出一喽水气。
