  2. That's a norm for Japanese.
They receive the unique education since they are small.

Every society and culture have their own norm.
We cannot blame their thinking, because this is their norm.
But our norm is: "when someone attack me, i need to protect ourselves."

History explain different view of WW2.
If you read Japanese history, they will said they force to have a war to extent their country.
If you read Chinese history, they will said the Japanese is *** because of their dirty action.

Well, this Japanese soldier's diary is just a personal view, how your view is more important.

  5. In my (non-silliness) opinion, proper history does not favour any side.

We all know about cover-ups countries do to their history books. Malaysia does it. Japan does it. They make sure students only learn what the government wants them to learn about the nation's history. What can be more sickening is when a country hides present situations from the nation, but that's another story.

The problem about history is that historians, being human, have a tendency to favour one side or the other. Thus, some facts may be exaggerated or the wordplay will make the event seem to have a good guy and a bad guy. The good guys will have continued emphasis on how they defeated the bad guys and the bad guys will have continued emphasis on the bad stuff they did.

This means what we learn is not the pure truth. In the end we will be led to think that so-and-so nation is the good nation and so-and-so nation is the bad nation. The only way, in my opinion, to prevent such injustice, is that history is written without adjectives, and basically full of statistics.

Of course, this would be highly unlikely because it would make history the boring-est topic in the world XP

A good way I've discovered about learning History in Singapore however, are eyewitness accounts... from both sides =) (I don't remember having that back in Malaysia) It sheds a whole new kind of light on various topics, and we realize that in history, there aren't really any absolute good or bad nations. Just a bunch of political fools fooling around with their power.
