Caffeinated entropy

Often I wonder why people stir the milk in their coffee or tea for more than ten times. Cling cling cling cling cling. How annoying.

That's overstirring. A good mixing can probably be achieved in less than ten stirs. That is, the distribution of milk particles in the coffee quickly becomes uniform over time and plateaus after just a few stirs.

Funny. A uniform distribution of milk particles is then the goal of coffee stirring. I couldn't help but imaging what happens to the milk particles when you cease stirring. Well, assuming the latte as ideal fluid and a closed system, do the milk particles perform Brownian movement? If so, then the distribution of milk particles over time becomes...random? Maximum entropy?

Hang on. There's a reason to keep stirring then. To keep the milk particles from becoming randomly distributed. To keep them uniformly spaced in the coffee, or tea. To ensure each sip are consistent in taste and texture.

Can't really blame the old man next table for clinging clinging and clinging now, can I?

The noumenon is a posited object or event that is known (if at all) without the use of ordinary sense-perception. The term noumenon is generally used in contrast with, or in relation to phenomenon, which refers to anything that can be apprehended by, or is an object of the senses. Much of modern philosophy has generally been skeptical of the possibility of knowledge independent of the senses, and Immanuel Kant gave this point of view its canonical expression: that the noumenal world may exist, but it is completely unknowable through human sensation. In Kantian philosophy, the unknowable noumenon is often linked to the unknowable "thing-in-itself" (in Kant's German, Ding an sich), although how to characterize the nature of the relationship is a question yet open to some controversy.

标题取自北野武的电影《あの夏、いちばん静かな海》。从几趟内陆实地考察回来，看见大海，有股莫名的虚幻感。仿佛到了世界的边缘，在太平洋的另一端，是一座雄伟的瀑布，海水流下无底的空无。

显微镜下的世界

显微镜一直是热爱科学和观察的人之间的话题。最有趣的行为莫过于：当一个人用显微镜发现了新奇的东西时，就会和身边的人轮流使用镜筒。做义工时认识了研究生 Nic，我毛遂自荐要为显微镜写 operation manual，其实醉翁之意在摄影。哈哈，陆续有来。

透过镜头，我看见羊儿们在观察我。多么奇异的一幕，他们的绒毛配上阴天和远处的山脉，显得好超现实。

这让我想起了美国摄影师 Ed Panar 的拍摄项目《Animals that saw me (2010)》。对他（和我）而言，动物的回望提出了一些问题：“在这些动物的眼里，人类究竟是什么样子？对于它们来说，我们究竟意味着什么？”

牧场顿时变成外星球上的草地，我变成了羊儿好奇望着的外星人。

Absurdity of Life #1 | 日常上的荒谬事件（之一）

Project statement: Absurdity of Life (2012) is a personal photoproject in its first stage, it attempts to capture life's somewhat absurd settings in a humourous sense (largely inspired by classic street one liners such as those of Elliot Erwitt's). Street photography is about found object, and the right subjects only appear to those with a keen eye for these ubiquitous jokes - be it the kids for sale in a store, the suspiciously dangerous bricks, the even suspiciously dangerous fire valve, or our way to transplant a palm for greenery's sake. Get the joke, my friend ;-)
